Identify which Bibb County background-check route you need

This request can refer to two different jurisdictions: Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, or Bibb County, Alabama. A local sheriff service, a state criminal-history product, an employer access program, and a fingerprint-based screening request are different products. Start by confirming the state and the purpose of the check before submitting personal information or payment.

For Georgia, the reader may need a Macon-Bibb local route, a Georgia criminal-history product, Georgia Felon Search, or an agency-directed fingerprint screening. For Alabama, the reader may need a local sheriff route, an ALEA personal criminal-history review, or an approved access program. The correct custodian depends on the product requested.

Georgia: separate local, name-search and fingerprint products

Macon-Bibb Background Checks is a local service route separate from Central/Open Records. The Background Checks office lists 478-310-4030 and 111 Third Street Suite 1A, Macon, GA for this service. Current local fee and turnaround details remain product-specific and should be confirmed with that office; do not transfer another Georgia product's fee to this local route.

Georgia Felon Search is a separate felony name-search product. It uses first name, last name, date of birth and sex, with optional narrowing identifiers. It charges $15 even when no record is found and $15 for each additional selected record. A valid credit card is required. The result is a name match search, not fingerprint identity confirmation, and it excludes misdemeanor records, juvenile felony records and sealed or expunged records.

Required fingerprint screening uses the agency-directed GAPS/IdentoGO process. The requesting agency directs the applicant, photo ID is required, fingerprints are submitted through the approved process, and the agency retrieves the result after submission.

Alabama: personal review, local contact and ABC access are separate

ALEA personal criminal-history review is a separate product. The applicant submits the CHRI application with classifiable fingerprints from authorized law enforcement with an ORI, a current photo-ID copy, and the required signature process. The application requires an applicant signature with two witnesses or notarization. The personal-review fee is $25 by money order or cashier's check, with $5 for additional copies.

Personal-review requests may be submitted in person at 301 S. Ripley Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104, or by mail to PO Box 1511, Montgomery, AL 36102-1511, ATTN Background Checks. ALEA states a minimum review period of 4-5 weeks after receipt, excluding challenges.

ABC access is different from personal review. Current ALEA operational information describes qualifying-employer ABC access. The ABC subscription route requires approval before retrieval. October 1, 2026 statutory changes address expanded authorized noncriminal-justice requesters, permission requirements and state-only versus authorized biometric/state-federal routes. The statutory cap up to $30 is not a current checkout price and does not establish unrestricted public access.
